In Greek mythology, Crete was the island where Zeus was secretly raised by Rhea. In addition, it was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo.
It was the location where the labyrinth of the Minotaur was located. It was also the location where Zeus took Europa to to bear her sons, who would eventually become the Kings of the Minoan civilization.
